Fatal Truck Accidents in California

Southern California is a densely populated area with a substantial amount of businesses and industries operating in the region. Thousands of commercial trucks travel the region’s roads and highways each day transporting materials, goods, and other essentials. The trucking industry is an essential part of life in California. Unfortunately, along with the thriving trucking industry, come truck accidents that are all too common in the state and are on a rising trend. Tractor-trailers are massive and can be difficult to control and maneuver on roadways and can weigh up to 80,000 pounds or more. The risk of grave injuries or fatalities occurring is very high when commercial trucks are in accidents, because of their size, they can inflict a lot of damage.

The trucking industry is federally regulated and held to very high safety standards. Despite best efforts, accidents still happen quite frequently. Some common reasons for accidents include distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, driving while fatigued due to long hours on the road, and impaired driving. Serious truck accidents can also be caused by poor handling during inclement weather, unstable or shifting cargo, and obstacles on the roadway. An accident can happen in a blink of an eye, so it’s extraordinarily important for all drivers to be on guard when driving around trucks.
