Fresno, CA – Angelica Beltran Killed in Collision with Tractor-Trailer on HWY 99

Fresno, CA (September 8, 2022) – On Wednesday, September 7, an accident involving a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer was reported in Fresno that killed one person.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred, on Highway 99 near the Olive Avenue off-ramp. CHP reported that a semi-truck was traveling northbound on Highway 99 approaching Olive Avenue when it hit a pedestrian that was walking along the road. The driver of the semi reportedly didn’t see her in time and was unable to avoid hitting her. The impact caused the pedestrian to sustain major injuries. The driver of the semi-truck pulled over to the side of the road and immediately call 911 for assistance.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. They arrived, shortly thereafter, and rendered care to the woman. Sadly, the pedestrian’s injuries were too severe. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. She was later identified as 21-year-old Angelica Beltran, of Fresno. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities. The area was shut down as paramedics tended to the victim and officers conducted their initial investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Fatal Truck Accidents in California

California’s moderate climate and beautiful scenery make it a state where there are often pedestrians walking or exercising along the roadways. However, over 800 pedestrians lose their lives in vehicle accidents each year, which has steadily increased over the years. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable when involved in an accident with a vehicle and even more so if they are hit by a large commercial truck. Pedestrians have no way of defending themselves from suddenly being hit while on the roads. As a result, pedestrian accidents, have some of the gravest outcomes. Unfortunately, there are more pedestrian accidents reported in California than in any other state in the country, and the frequency of trucks hitting pedestrians is also a rising trend.

Thousands of commercial trucks travel California’s roads and highways each day. Trucks are frequently in accidents because they are more difficult to control and maneuver on roadways. It is harder for truck drivers to see pedestrians walking on the road because they are much higher up off the ground than passenger vehicles. By the time they do see a pedestrian, it is often too late, for the truck driver to do any evasive movements to avoid hitting the pedestrian. However, all drivers, including those of large commercial trucks, owe a duty of care to pedestrians to stay alert and watchful and to exercise reasonable caution to avoid causing harm to them. When a pedestrian is hit by a truck or vehicle, this duty of care owed to them has been breached.
