Fresno, CA (September 20, 2022) – On Sunday, September 18, three people died following a crash that occurred with a flatbed truck at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Floral Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred, around 1:45 p.m. when a flatbed truck was traveling southbound on Cedar Avenue and entered the intersection at Floral Avenue, and collided with an SUV that was traveling westbound on Floral Avenue. The force of the impact caused both of the vehicles to erupt into flames. The vehicles were significantly damaged by the impact.
Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. There were three occupants in the SUV. All three were tragically trapped in the SUV and required extrication by emergency personnel. The SUV occupants suffered fatal injuries and were sadly pronounced dead at the accident scene. Their names have not been released at this time to allow authorities time to contact next of kin.
The driver of the flatbed truck also sustained very serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance for further care. This person sustained major injuries, but officials report that he is expected to survive.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities. The area was closed down as crews tended to victims and cleared the wreckage.
