Truck Accidents in California

The trucking industry is a fundamental part of life in California. It plays an important part in ensuring the success of California’s economy. They deliver goods and services to many of California’s communities. Large commercial trucks are regularly seen on California’s highways. Tractor-trailers are much larger than other vehicles, often weighing more than ten times that of the other vehicles on the road. Especially when they are fully loaded with cargo. Given their large size, when they are in accidents, they can cause significant damage and inflict catastrophic harm on all who are involved. Common injuries after a truck accident include:

  • Back and Neck Injuries
  • Cuts, Bruises, Broken Bones, and Lacerations
  • Burn Injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Internal Injuries
  • Amputations and Disfigurement
  • Spinal Cord Injuries and Paralysis

Truck accidents happen frequently in California. There are many reasons why they happen. Some of the most common causes are speeding, distracted driving, tailgating, driving while fatigued due to long hours on the road, and impaired driving. Serious truck accidents can also be caused by poor handling during extreme weather, shifting cargo, difficulty breaking and stopping the truck in emergencies, and hazards on the roadway.

It’s important to realize that trucking companies and insurance companies are not on your side after an accident. Do not trust that these companies will do the right thing and compensate you justly for the harm their truck has caused you. No company wants to pay out a lot of money on a personal injury claim and will do whatever it takes to protect their wallet. They will try to shift liability and blame others. Or they may try to offer you a quick initial settlement at a low amount and may pressure you to accept that lowball offer.

The insurance adjuster will try to tell you that your claim is not worth any more than what they’ve offered or will try to get you to accept some of the blame for the accident. Therefore, it is best not to speak to the insurance company without legal representation. Never sign an agreement with an insurance adjuster without first speaking to an experienced truck accident attorney. An attorney will fight for your rights and get you the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
