Irvine, CA (September 26, 2022) – On Saturday, September 24, an accident involving multiple vehicles and a tractor-trailer was reported in Irvine that killed one person and injured two others.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred, around 4 a.m., on the 5 Freeway near Jamboree Road. CHP reported that a semi-truck was involved in a traffic collision with multiple vehicles on the southbound 5 Freeway. The impact of the crash caused the big rig to erupt into flames.
Firefighters and paramedics were immediately called to the scene. They arrived, shortly thereafter, rendered care to the injured, and worked hastily to put out the fire. Sadly, one person sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. This person was later identified as 59-year-old Daniel Franco, of Lake Forest. Two additional people sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for further medical care.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities. The area was shut down as paramedics tended to the victims, cleaned the wreckage and officers conducted their investigation.
