Hit-and-Run Truck Accidents in California

California’s roads are densely filled with large commercial trucks. Accidents happen every day involving these trucks for a variety of reasons; however, negligent driving always tops the list of main reasons for accidents occurring. Accidents are often caused by distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, driving while fatigued, and impaired driving. Serious truck accidents can also be caused by the truck’s poor handling during inclement weather, the truck’s larger blind spots, wider turns, unstable or shifting cargo, and obstacles on the roadway. When truck accidents happen, the result is often very serious injuries for the occupants of the other vehicles involved, since trucks are so much larger than the other vehicles on the road.

California law clearly states that if a driver is involved in an accident, the driver must pull off the road at the scene of the accident. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is a punishable offense and will be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony offense, depending on the circumstances. Police are very successful at tracking down drivers who flee the scene of an accident. Using eyewitness information, traffic cameras, and other evidence helps them to identify who the driver was and bring them to justice.

When a driver has severely broken the law and caused a serious accident, sometimes they are fearful of the consequences and flee the scene of the accident. However, they must be brought to justice for the harm they have caused. Fleeing an accident only compounds the problem and leads to greater charges filed against a person.
