Truck Accidents in California

The trucking industry is an important part of California’s economy, as they help to bring goods and services to California’s communities. California’s roads and highways are filled with trucks. California has an ideal location, located on the Pacific Ocean and between two foreign countries, which also makes it a key player in national interstate commerce and international trade. Many of California’s highways serve as main trucking routes and this further adds to the number of trucks on the roadways. As a consequence, truck accidents occur frequently in California. Drivers need to be extra cautious when driving around trucks and be on guard to try and prevent an accident from happening. Since tractor trailers are much larger than other vehicles, they can be more difficult to manage. Since they are much larger, when vehicles are in accidents with trucks, the risk of serious injury is very high.

There are many good truck drivers and trucking companies who operate their businesses well; however, there are also many that put profits ahead of prioritizing safety. In many cases, truck drivers are pressured to deliver their cargo in an unrealistically short time frame, in order to increase their profits. As a result, truck drivers skip rests and speed to make timely deliveries. However, this is illegal behavior, as there are specific federal laws that dictate how many hours a truck driver is allowed to be driving on the road consecutively. Accidents are more likely to happen when these regulations are disregarded.

After a trucking accident, a truck company’s main goal is to minimize what they have to pay for damages. Their main goal is to always avoid liability and minimize costs. Many different parties can be at fault when there is a truck accident, which can make truck accident cases and determining liability complicated. Therefore, it is best to have an experienced truck accident attorney evaluate your case and help you through the next steps.
