Sacramento, CA – Roseann Mary Guzman Killed in Fatal Construction-Zone Truck Accident on I-5

Sacramento, CA (September 12, 2022) – The identity of a woman who was killed in a construction-zone truck accident has now been released. Roseann Mary Guzman, 34, was killed on I-5 on Wednesday, September 7.

The police reported that a construction worker was killed and another person seriously injured in a work-zone crash on Wednesday evening on Interstate 5 in Sacramento, at the Sutterville Road off-ramp near the Land Park neighborhood. The accident occurred, at about 6:30 p.m. when a van was driving through a work zone, where construction workers were setting up cones to mark off night work areas. The van swerved across many lanes of the highway, collided with the worker’s Caltrans truck and continued traveling, and struck two workers who were on the roadway.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. When they arrived, shortly thereafter, crews worked quickly to care for those that were injured and provide medical care. Sadly, one Caltrans worker, Roseann Mary Guzman, 34, suffered very severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. She was publicly identified later in the week after next of kin were notified. Another Caltrans worker, a 54-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, according to officials. The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man from Washington State was not injured in the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities. Many lanes of I-5 were shut down as police investigated the scene and crews worked to clean up the damage.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are also with the other person injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Fatal Construction-Zone Truck Accidents in California

Many roadways in the country and California are in a state of disrepair and are constantly needing attention. As a result, construction zones maintain a regular presence on the roadways. Construction zones can be extremely dangerous areas to traverse due to merging traffic, reduced lanes, narrower lanes, inadequate warnings, sudden stopping, debris on the roads, and uneven terrain. Furthermore, the large equipment, trucks, and additional construction workers further increase the congestion on California’s roadways and create extra hazards that drivers have to avoid.
