Fatal DUI Truck Accidents in California

Driving under the influence of alcohol is grossly reckless behavior that causes thousands of accidents each year in California. More than 1,000 people are killed in California by drunk drivers every year. The law clearly states that it is illegal for any person to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, if the person is 21 years old or older, or 0.01% if the person is under 21 years old. Despite these strict laws and corresponding penalties associated with breaking them, California is struggling with an increasing amount of DUI accidents.

Trucks of all sizes and varieties travel California’s roads every day. They are higher off the ground than ordinary vehicles and it is harder for their drivers to see pedestrians. Because trucks can cause so much damage if they are involved in an accident, truck drivers need to exercise a higher level of care when operating a truck to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other vehicles on the roadways. Unfortunately, drivers of moving trucks are often inexperienced at driving a truck. Oftentimes, people will rent a truck as a more affordable way to move. They do not have a commercial truck license and lack the experience or training that professional truck drivers have.
