Seal Beach, CA – Injury Reported in Rollover Accident Involving a Big Rig on 405 FWY

Seal Beach, CA (November 5, 2022) – On Friday afternoon, November 4, an accident involving a sedan and a big rig was reported on the 405 freeway, resulting in serious injury.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that in the afternoon around 12:40 p.m. an accident was reported on the southbound 405 freeway, in Seal Beach, near Seal Beach Boulevard. The accident happened when a semi-truck lost entered the same space as another vehicle causing a collision. As a result of the impact, the driver of the big rig lost control of the truck as it veered and swerved. The truck ultimately overturned and landed on top of the sedan, crushing it. Two occupants in the sedan became trapped inside the vehicle as a result.

Multiple emergency personnel agencies were called to the scene. Firefighters were required to extricate two people from their vehicle. The driver of the sedan, a 70-year-old woman from Huntington Beach, was airlifted by helicopter to UC Irvine Medical Center for emergency treatment of her injuries. The passenger in the sedan was reported to be uninjured. The driver of the big rig also was uninjured in the accident.

There were significant delays in the area. There was major damage to the vehicle and truck resulting in significant wreckage on the roadway. Two trucks were also requested to respond to the accident to clear the vehicles. The accident required multiple lanes of traffic to be closed for a few hours as clean-up efforts required extensive effort.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and its causes.

Our thoughts are with all those who have been injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
