Wasco, CA (October 8, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, October 5, a 33-year-old man from Wasco and one other person were tragically killed following a crash that occurred involving two semi-trucks and a vehicle on Highway 46.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred, at about 5:45 a.m. Anthony C. Campo was driving a tractor-trailer westbound on Highway 46 when it collided with another tractor-trailer, driven by Lovepreet S. Dhillon, that was traveling eastbound on Highway 46. The tractor-trailer driven by Dhillon spun out of control in the eastbound direction after the collision and hit a Toyota that was on the northern shoulder. The impact caused the truck to roll over and land on top of the Toyota. The Toyota was crushed by the tractor-trailer.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. The driver of the Toyota and one passenger were trapped inside the vehicle under the weight of the tractor-trailer. Firefighters worked hastily to extricate them from their vehicle. Unfortunately, the two occupants of the Toyota sustained very severe injuries in the accident and were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Fatal Truck Accidents in California

Southern California has a thriving economy with many businesses and industries operating in the region. Every day there are thousands of commercial trucks traveling the region’s roads and highways transporting materials, goods, and other essentials around the clock. The trucking industry is essential for California’s economy. However, along with the thriving trucking industry, comes truck accidents that happen way too frequently in the state and are unfortunately on a rising trend. Tractor-trailers can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and are massive and can be difficult to control, while the average ordinary passenger vehicle is only between 4,000 and 6,000 pounds. As a result, the risk of grave injuries or fatalities occurring is very high when passenger vehicles are in accidents with these large commercial trucks.

The trucking industry is strictly regulated by federal laws. There are rules that must be adhered to for every part of a truck company’s operations. Some examples of activities that are regulated include the number of hours a driver is allowed to drive before needing a rest, how much a semi-truck can weigh and how much cargo it can haul before it exceeds limits and becomes dangerous, and truck maintenance schedules. Despite best efforts to hold the industry to these high safety standards, accidents still happen quite frequently. Some common reasons for accidents include distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, driving while fatigued due to long hours on the road, impaired driving, overweight trailers, truck’s longer braking times, wide turns, and poor truck maintenance. Serious truck accidents can also be caused by poor handling during poor weather, unsecured cargo, hazardous cargo, and obstacles or defects in the roadway. An accident can happen in a blink of an eye, so it’s extraordinarily important for all drivers to be on guard when driving around trucks and maintain extra distance between your vehicle and the trucks when possible.

There is nothing more shocking than the unexpected and tragic loss of a family member. When you lose a loved one, your life has been turned upside down. Filing a wrongful death suit can ensure that a negligent party is held responsible for the actions that caused your loved one’s death.
