Male Pedestrian, 60, Injured in Rainbow Semi-Truck Accident

60-Year-Old Pedestrian Transported to Palomar Medical Center With Broken Bones After Being Hit by Semi-Truck Near Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Rainbow Glen Road

Injured in Rainbow Semi-Truck Accident

RAINBOW, CALIFORNIA (November 15, 2025) – A 60-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a semi-truck in Rainbow near the intersection of Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Rainbow Glen Road.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 5:17 AM on Thursday. The pedestrian was crossing lanes of traffic when he was struck by a semi truck.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center to receive treatment for broken bones.

An investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Rainbow Pedestrian Accidents

Truck drivers are expected to operate their vehicles with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22350, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.” Truck drivers may make several mistakes that contribute to an accident.

  • Lane Change: Truck drivers may make an unsafe lane change and fail to check for cross traffic.
  • Fatigue: Truck drivers may fail to take required breaks to prevent themselves from becoming dangerously fatigued.
  • Turn Signals: Truck drivers may fail to use their turn signals to alert other drivers of their intentions.
  • Medications: Truck drivers may take medications that impair their ability to operate a vehicle safely.

Truck drivers must be particularly cautious around pedestrians. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. When a truck driver is negligent and causes a collision, their employer could be held at fault. However, many truck companies will hire their drivers as “independent contractors” to limit their legal exposure in the event of accidents.

Steps to Take After San Diego County Pedestrian Accidents

Commercial trucks account for a relatively small number of total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a high number of fatal collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “A total of 5,472 people died in large-truck crashes in 2023. The number of deaths decreased 8% from 2022 but is up 40% in the last 10 years. The majority of deaths in large-truck crashes are occupants of other vehicles (70%), followed by truck occupants (18%), and non-occupants, primarily pedestrians and bicyclists (12%).” Victims of truck accidents should take certain measures to protect their health and legal rights.

  • Police Response: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • Evidence Preservation: Victims should take steps to preserve as much evidence as possible. This should include taking lots of photos of the accident site.
  • Event Data Recorder: The event data recorder of the truck involved should be carefully reviewed. It can offer great insights into what a truck driver was doing prior to a crash.
  • Independent Review: Any person affected by a truck accident should carefully consider all of their legal options with an experienced legal team.

Truck accidents can be highly complex events. There could be several liable parties depending on who owned or operated a truck. Unfortunately, nearly all truck accidents have one thing in common. The entity that owned that truck will virtually never admit fault. This is why it is so important for these accidents to be thoroughly investigated by an outside party. A person injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
