BOYLE HEIGHTS, CALIFORNIA (November 6, 2025) – A motorcyclist was injured in a Boyle Heights semi-truck accident on the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway by the 10 Freeway.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. A motorcyclist became pinned under the front cab of a white semi-truck.

It remains unclear what may have happened in the moments leading up to the collision.

A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Los Angeles County Semi-Truck Accidents

Semi-truck drivers are required to obtain a commercial license. They are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. Many truck accidents are caused by drivers that follow other vehicles too closely. According to California Vehicle Code 21703, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway.” Several factors could contribute to any semi-truck accident.

  • Fatigue: A large portion of semi-truck accidents involve drivers that are fatigued.
  • Speeding: Another major cause of truck accidents is speeding. What many drivers don’t realize is that even traveling the speed limit could be dangerous given the prevailing conditions.
  • Driver Distraction: Truck drivers may be distracted by their phones or other devices in their cab.

There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any truck driver that collides with a vehicle ahead of them in their own lane of traffic. These types of collisions are nearly always preventable and due to drivers that are speeding or following the lead vehicle too closely. If a truck driver is negligent and causes a collision, their employer could be held at fault. Employers can be liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were performing their job duties.

Steps to Take After a Los Angeles County Bus Accident

Truck accidents are a leading cause of preventable injury and death. According to the IIHS, “A total of 4,354 people died in large truck crashes in 2023. Sixteen percent of these deaths were truck occupants, 65% were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles, and 17% were pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists.” Any person in a truck accident should take certain steps to protect their health and legal rights.

  • Police Report: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can investigate.
  • Hospital Visit: Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation, even if they feel alright after a crash. Many injuries will not be immediately obvious.
  • Accident Review: The accident should be reviewed by a legal team with experience in injury claims.

Any person injured in a truck accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. It is important to act with some sense of urgency after any collision. Failing to act within the statute of limitations can result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
