Investigation Underway After Truck Hit Pedestrian Crossing Bechelli Lane in Redding

REDDING, CALIFORNIA (November 22, 2025) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a Redding car accident after being hit by a white Ford F150 pickup truck along Bechelli Lane in Redding.
Shasta County officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:09 AM on Wednesday in the southbound lanes of traffic. A pedestrian was crossing the street when they were hit by the truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures at the hospital, he was pronounced dead due to the severe nature of his injuries.
A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash.
Liability for Redding Truck Accidents
Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian on the roadway. This necessitates that they maintain their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. According to California Vehicle Code 22350, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.” Multiple factors could contribute to any pedestrian accident.
- Speeding: Drivers are substantially more likely to lose control of their vehicles and hit pedestrians if they’re traveling at an unsafe speed. Even driving the speed limit could be considered dangerous depending on the prevailing road conditions.
- Fatigue: Driving fatigue can actually be incredibly dangerous. In fact, some studies estimate that staying awake for 17 hours can reduce a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely equal to driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05%.
- Vehicle System Failures: If any part of a vehicle fails, this could cause the driver to lose control and potentially crash. This is particularly common in tire blowouts.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, they could be held legally responsible through a civil claim. Liability for a collision could involve multiple entities. This is particularly true if a pickup truck was involved in a crash. Pickup trucks and vans are routinely used for commercial purposes. When a vehicle is being used for commercial purposes, the company that owned or operated that vehicle may be responsible.
Common Injuries Associated With Truck Accidents
Thousands of pedestrians are either killed or seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions each year. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, “GHSA’s analysis of preliminary data provided by State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) found that U.S. drivers struck and killed 7,148 pedestrians in 2024, enough to fill more than 30 Boeing 737 jets at maximum capacity.” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Head Injuries: The force of being knocked to the ground can cause many pedestrians to hit their heads and suffer traumatic brain injuries.
- Broken Bones: Pedestrian accidents routinely lead victims with traumatic injuries to their arms and lower extremities.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: The blunt force of being hit by a vehicle can leave victims with spinal cord injuries. These can result in temporary or even permanent paralysis.
- Organ Damage: Not all of the injuries associated with pedestrian accidents will be outwardly obvious. It is fairly common for the victims of these collisions to sustain major injuries to their internal organs.
Accident victims are protected by a number of laws. They have the right to seek aid through a personal injury claim. This right extends to the family of any person killed in a collision. They are able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
