Electric Scooter Rider Died in Fresno Truck Accident Near the Intersection of Blythe Avenue and Gates Avenue Near WinCo

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA (August 14, 2025) – A pedestrian was killed in a Fresno semi-truck accident near the intersection of Blythe Avenue and Gates Avenue.
Fresno County officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday. A motorized scooter rider was run over by a semi-truck for undetermined reasons.
The semi-truck driver apparently did not stop immediately after the crash. A citizen followed the truck and let the driver know that they hit someone.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, the pedestrian later died due to the severe nature of their injuries.
Authorities believe it is possible the truck driver did not realize that they hit anyone. A full investigation into the Fresno truck accident remains ongoing.
Liability for Fresno Semi-Truck Accidents
Truck drivers must exercise due care to avoid collisions. They must be particularly cautious around any pedestrian that is near them. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, there are certain safety measures that must be taken to avoid hitting them.
- Awareness: Truck drivers should maintain awareness of their surroundings at all times, particularly in urban areas and high-risk zones like intersections.
- Blind Spots: Truck drivers should be familiar with all of the blind spots around their vehicle. They should check those blind spots when making turns, backing up, and changing lanes.
- Speed: Truck drivers should slow down in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. They may need to slow down during poor weather and low visibility.
- Communication: Truck drivers should communicate effectively with pedestrians. This will often include making eye contact and using their horns if necessary.
When a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, this may be construed as negligence. If a truck driver leaves the scene of a collision causing injury to a pedestrian, there is a good chance that they were not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Intentionally leaving the scene of a collision that causes injury may lead to criminal and civil liability.
Third-Party Liability for Truck Accidents
Truck accidents can be highly complex events. The factors that contribute to any accident may take place hours, days, weeks, or even months beforehand. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for a truck accident in addition to a truck driver.
- Truck Company: A truck company could be liable for a collision if it was caused by poor vehicle maintenance or policies that prioritize efficiency over safety.
- Vehicle Manufacturers: The company that manufactured the truck or its component parts could potentially be liable for a collision if some type of malfunction caused a crash.
- Government Entities: In rare circumstances property owners and government entities could be liable for a pedestrian collision. Both property owners and government entities have a legal obligation to maintain roadways in a reasonably safe condition. They may be responsible for a crash if it was caused by a dangerous condition on public property.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any truck accident. Unfortunately, truck drivers and their employers virtually never accept responsibility if they’re involved in a fatal collision. It is more likely that they will blame the victim or say that they were at least partially at fault. This is why it is so important to have any fatal accident thoroughly investigated by experienced legal counsel.
