Big Rig Truck Crashed

FOOTHILL FARMS, CALIFORNIA (February 18, 2025) – Many people were injured in a Foothill Farms truck accident along Interstate 80 near Greenback Lane.

California Highway Patrol is saying that the accident took place around 6:25 a.m. on Thursday. A big rig driver lost control and crashed through the center median along Interstate 80.

That truck hit several vehicles before coming to a stop. Numerous ambulances were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims.

Photos of the accident showed that the roadways may have been slicked by rain when the crash took place. A full investigation into the Foothill Farms truck accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Foothill Farms Semi-Truck Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured in semi-truck accidents every year. According to the National Safety Council, “Also in 2022, 120,200 large trucks were involved in crashes resulting in an injury, a 2.5% increase from 2021. Since 2016, the number of trucks involved in injury crashes has increased 18% and the involvement rate per 100 million large truck miles driven has increased 5.7% to 37.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a semi-truck accident.

  • Semi-trucks can weigh up to 80,000 lbs. A fully loaded semi-truck traveling at 65 mph can take the length of two football fields to come to a stop.
  • Semi-trucks have large blind spots that can easily obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Semi-trucks are much more difficult to operate than passenger vehicles.

Semi-truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting other vehicles. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22350, no person shall drive a vehicle on a roadway at a speed greater than would be reasonable or prudent given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. During any period of inclement weather, drivers should slow down. If a semi-truck driver fails to slow down and causes a collision, this could create the basis of a negligence claim.

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous liable parties for any semi-truck accident. For example, the company that loaded a truck could potentially bear some liability. All trucks have weight limits. When these weight limits are exceeded, this could easily lead to a semi-truck driver losing control. Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

Semi-truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve truck drivers who are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. In far too many cases, carriers will push their truck drivers to complete deliveries on unrealistic timelines. It is important that victims of truck accidents understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a bodily injury claim.
