Truck Accident Lawyer

THOUSAND PALMS, CALIFORNIA (April 20, 2026) – A 62-year-old cement truck driver from Yucca Valley has tragically died in a Thousand Palms truck accident along Interstate 10.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the incident took place on Tuesday, April 14. A big rig driver was traveling down the interstate when he crossed the center divider and collided head-on with a cement truck and several other vehicles.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims. Sadly, the driver of the cement truck died due to the severe nature of his injuries.

Multiple other people were transported to local area hospitals to receive treatment. California Highway Patrol closed multiple lanes of the freeway as they continue to investigate the collision.

Liability for California Truck Accidents

Truck drivers must attain a commercial license. They are required to get specialized training so that they can operate their vehicle safely. According to CA Veh Code § 21658, “A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety.” There are several factors that could contribute to any truck accident.

  • Speed: Truck drivers are substantially more likely to be involved in a collision if they’re traveling at excessive speeds.
  • Follow Distance: A large portion of truck accidents involve drivers that are failing to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead of them.
  • Fatigue: Truck drivers are often pushed to work long hours at all times of the day and night. They can easily become dangerously fatigued.

If a truck driver crosses into opposing lanes of traffic and collides with another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that enters opposing lanes of traffic. Liability for any truck accident could extend beyond a specific driver determined to be at fault. The company that owned a commercial truck or was employing its driver could also bear some level of responsibility for the crash.

Steps to Take After California Truck Accidents

Many people are killed or seriously injured every year in truck accidents. According to the IIHS, “Most deaths in large truck crashes are passenger vehicle occupants. The main problem is the vulnerability of people traveling in smaller vehicles. Trucks often weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars and are taller with greater ground clearance, which can result in smaller vehicles underriding trucks in crashes.” It is important that certain actions are taken after any truck accident.

  • The police should be called to the scene so that they can begin investigating.
  • Any person who may have witnessed the collision should be interviewed early on.
  • All of the medical records related to the incident should be collected.
  • The event data recorder for the truck involved should be preserved.
  • The family of any person who died should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident reconstruction and negligence claims.

Truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve drivers that are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Part of the problem is that many truck companies will often push their drivers to complete deliveries as quickly as possible. This can lead truck drivers to develop unsafe habits. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
