Buttonwillow, CA – Injuries Reported in Accident with Semi-Truck on I-5

Buttonwillow, CA (November 1, 2022) – On Monday morning, October 31, an accident involving four vehicles and a semi-truck was reported on I-5 that resulted in serious injuries.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that in the morning an accident occurred on I-5 north of Twisselman Road. The accident occurred when a semi-truck was traveling northbound on I-5 reportedly between 55 and 60 miles per hour in a construction area. Due to the speed at which the semi was traveling, the truck was not able to stop as it approached the stopped traffic ahead. As a result, it collided with four stopped vehicles in front of it. There were traffic delays in the area Monday afternoon and traffic was diverted as clean-up efforts were underway.

Multiple emergency personnel agencies were called to the scene. Paramedics assessed all involved for injuries. Allan Shultz, 77, and Susan Shultz, 76, of El Dorado Hills, California, sustained moderate injuries and were both rushed by ambulance to Mercy Hospital for further medical care. The occupants of the three other vehicles were assessed at the scene but were not reported to have sustained any injuries. The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the accident either.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with those who have been injured in this accident. We hope for the full recovery of all involved.

Truck Accidents in California

Many truck companies in California operate their business well and follow all the applicable federal and state laws imposed on them to ensure safety. However, many companies put profits ahead of safety. Companies often pressure their truck drivers to deliver cargo in unrealistically short times to increase profits. As a result, truck drivers skip rests and speed to make timely deliveries. This is illegal. There are specific federal laws that dictate how many hours a truck driver is allowed to drive before without a rest. Driving fatigued or speeding makes accidents more likely to occur.

Truck companies are required to carry large insurance policies because of the vast damage a truck can cause in an accident. Due to the potential for great liability, a truck company’s main goal after an accident is to reduce what they have to pay for damages on a claim. They don’t want to risk their premiums increasing or being dropped by their insurance company. Therefore, their main goal is to always avoid liability and minimize costs, and they have a team of lawyers that will help them see to that goal.

Many different parties can be at fault when there is a truck accident, which can make truck accident cases and determining liability complicated. This is why it is best to have an experienced truck accident attorney on your side who can help you fight the insurance company and their lawyers to get the compensation you deserve. A truck accident attorney can investigate your case, speak to eyewitnesses, and secure evidence documenting the negligence of the trucking company.
