Riverside, CA – UPDATE: 3-Year-Old Killed, Two Injured in Crash with Semi-Truck at Moreno Valley FWY & Blaine St

Riverside, CA (November 27, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, November 23, one person, a 3-year-old child, was tragically killed, and two others were injured as a result of an accident involving a car and a semi-truck in Riverside.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred a little after 12:30 a.m. on the Moreno Valley Freeway near Blaine Street in Riverside. A Kia sedan was traveling on the northbound Moreno Valley Freeway when it was smashed into by a semi-truck also traveling on the freeway. The force of the impact caused significant damage to the vehicle.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. First responders arrived quickly at the scene and helped the people from their vehicles, and tended to their injuries. Three people were traveling in the Kia, a female driver and two children. Sadly, officials report that the right rear passenger in the Kia sustained very serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau later reported that the deceased child was a 3-year-old girl from Riverside. The driver of the Kia and the other child, another 3-year-old, were also injured and were transported by ambulance to Riverside University Medical Center for further treatment.

Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. The police believe that alcohol played a factor in the crash but have not disclosed information about any pending arrests. The accident caused the area to be shut down for many hours as crews tended to the victims and cleared the accident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family at this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are also with the other victims injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Fatal Truck Accidents in California

Southern California is a populated region where many businesses and industries operate. The trucking industry is essential to the success of these businesses by transporting goods all over the state and the rest of the country. As such, there are thousands of commercial and delivery trucks traveling California’s roads and highways every day. Unfortunately, truck accidents commonly occur in California, and when they do, serious injuries or fatalities often occur.

Truck accidents happen for many reasons, often due to negligent or reckless driving. Some common reasons accidents happen are distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, driving while fatigued, and impaired driving. Driving under the influence of alcohol is reckless behavior that causes thousands of accidents each year in California. Choosing to drive under the influence will negatively affect your life and the life of those you harm forever. In California, it is illegal for any person to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher if the person is 21 years old or older or 0.01% if the person is under 21 years old. The federal law that regulates the trucking industry also prohibits truck drivers from drinking alcohol and then operating a truck.

There is nothing more devastating than the unexpected and tragic loss of a family member. When you lose a loved one, it goes without saying that no amount of money could replace that person in your life. Filing a wrongful death suit against a negligent party can ensure that you get justice for your deceased family member, help you to cope with their loss, and help you pay for the bills that have arisen, such as medical bills, funeral expenses, and loss of companionship. An experienced and compassionate attorney can help get this process started.
