Sherman Oaks, CA – Injuries Reported following Multi-Vehicle Accident with Overturned Tractor-Trailer on 101 FWY

Sherman Oaks, CA (November 26, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, November 23, a crash was reported with a tractor-trailer involving multiple vehicles on the 101 Freeway that resulted in injuries.

California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened in the northbound lanes of 101 Freeway near Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. Officials report that the crash occurred between a tractor-trailer and another vehicle when they entered the same space in the roadway and collided with each other. The force of the impact caused the tractor-trailer to travel out of control and overturn, and crash into two additional vehicles. The overturned semi-truck was carrying around 30,000 pounds of cargo and blocked four lanes of the highway.

Emergency personnel was immediately called to the scene. When officers and firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a semi-truck and its trailer overturned and three other vehicles that were involved in the crash with varying degrees of damage. Paramedics worked quickly to help the injured and provide medical care. Paramedics cared for multiple people at the scene but there is no detail at this time as to the exact number of people injured or the extent of their injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are under further investigation by local authorities. The accident caused the area to be shut down for many hours as crews tended to the victims and cleared the accident.

Our thoughts are with the victims injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Truck Accidents in California

The trucking industry is a vital industry in California that is integral to the success of its economy, by supporting the other businesses and industries in the state and transporting their goods to consumers. California’s roads are already filled with commuters, and the constant presence of commercial trucks further adds to the congestion. Around 500,000 truck accidents occur every year in the United States, and many occur in California. Trucks are big and cumbersome, making them hard to maneuver, which causes them to frequently be involved in accidents. Over the years, truck accidents have increased in frequency, increasing 28% since 2009 due to the Institute for Highway Safety.

Truck drivers are required to have a commercial driver’s license, which requires them to complete a specific training regimen. The trucking industry is regulated by federal law and all aspects of the operation are strictly regulated. However, despite the training and high standards, accidents still happen frequently. Many factors increase the risk of accidents occurring, some of which include speeding, distracted driving, tailgating, driver fatigue, and impaired driving. Serious truck accidents can also be caused by poor handling during extreme weather, shifting cargo, longer stopping times, blind spots, and hazards on the roadway.

Being in a truck accident can be a traumatic experience in your life full of stress, confusion, and worry. If you were in a truck accident caused by someone else’s negligence, speak to a knowledgeable truck accident lawyer, who will walk you through the next steps and help you get what you are entitled to as compensation for your injuries.
